Our Mission "If liberty and equality, as is thought by some are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost." - Aristotle Constituency 42 is an organisation which recognises that democracy exists in its fullest measure when there is universal participation in the electoral process. In pursuit of this, we seek to promote awareness of the role of constitutional politics and to bridge the accountability gap that has arisen between many voters and their elected representatives. We also aim to demonstrate that the concept of "not voting" is imaginery, and to create a paralell voting system in which established political parties do not prevent Independent candidates from fully representating constituents who reject partisan and whipped government. Ultimately, our message is that the changes we seek in Ireland are only achievable through mobilisation of the entire gamit of public opinion, and that democratic politics, rather than being a burden on our collective wealth and freedom, is vital to both our current and future existence. The pages of this website offer further information on our views and proposals, and detail various ways in which YOU can be involved. The name Constituency 42 derives from the fact that there are 41 constituencies in the Irish Electoral system, but that there are still many people who feel unrepresented by public representatives. |
